He lived in Pabianice and was a known scholar but not a rabbi. He was married to Rachma (Ruchama) Lewi (b. 1873, Lask). Her was father was named Tzvi Hersz Lewi, a son of Rabbi Fiszel from Stryków. Yosef Pacanowksi was the author of Pri Yosef a nd Pardes Yosef.
A granddaughter of Yosef and Rachma (Ester Strykowski, listed below) survived the Shoah and filed a Pages of Testimony with Yad Vashem in 1993 for Yosef (ID #1304576) and Rachma (ID #1304574). For Yosef she writes that he was born in Piotrkow i n 1873; his permanent place of residence was Pabianice; was living in Lodz during the war; and that he died “from hunger in Ghetto Lodz,” but does not give a precise date.
For Rachma (Ruchama) she writes that she was born in Lask in 1874; her permanent place of residence was Pabianice; and she was living in Lodz during the war. However, Ester didn’t list her circumstances of death or place of death.
A Page of Testimony (ID #10684039) for Ruchama was also submitted to Yad Vashem by Golda Winter Belkhatovski (second wife of Yitzchak Mordechai Winter, see below). Golda says her age was 60 at the time of her death. She says Ruchama was a daught er of David Dov Meizlish, which seems to be incorrect. She says she was married to Josef Pacenowski and was a resident of Pabianice, which is correct. Golda describes her relationship to the victim as her “nephew’s wife.”
Yosef married Rachma Ruchama Lewi, daughter of Tzvi Hersz Lewi and Unknown. (Rachma Ruchama Lewi was born in 1873 in ask, ask, Piotrków, Russian Empire, Poland.)
