- Marriage (1): Szefner, Efraim Yaakov
- Died: Auschwitz - Birkenau death camp
General Notes:
She married Efraim Yaakov Szefner. He probably died before the Holocaust, since no one submitted pages for him to Yad Vahsem. He may have died in Lodz in 1935 since someone named Efroim Szefner died in Lodz in that year (JRI).
Chaia perished in the Holocaust. Her daughter Ester née Szefner Strykowski submitted two Pages of Testimony to Yad Vashem in honor of her mother. On the first form, submitted on Dec. 25, 1955 (ID #496916), she gives her mother’s married surnam e as “Szefner-Milrad.” Ester writes that Chaia was born in 1906 in Pabianice; her permanent place of residence was Lodz; she was living in Lodz during the war; and that she died in Auschwitz (Oswiecim) death camp on Aug. 8, 1944.
On the second form, from Jan. 10, 1993, Ester gives basically the same information but for her death says that her mother was “gassed in Birkenau,” although this times she does not give a precise date for her mother’s death.
Chaia’s niece, Chaia née Pacanowska Ninio, also submitted a Page of Testimony in honor of her aunt, Chaia née Pacanowska Szefner (ID #1520417). She writes that her aunt was born in 1898 in Lask.
Chai married Efraim Yaakov Szefner.
