Luria, Chaya Tzipora (Tzipa)
General Notes: Like her husband, she was an active worker for the yishuv movement and was generous in helping others. She gave shelter to Eliezer ben Yehuda and his wife when they first arrived in Eretz Israel, letting them stay in the Pines home. She founde d the women's organization Ezrat Nashim in Jaffa in 1891 and later a Jerusalem branch in 1895. She took over the operation of the asylum for the mentally ill (Beit Hamachase) in 1902, which she had received from her cousin Rabbi Joseph Rivlin. Chaya had a relationship with Yechiel Michel Pines, son of Noach Pines and Hinda Cohn. (Yechiel Michel Pines was born on Oct 17, 1843 in Ruzhany, Brest, Belarus and died on Mar 15, 1913 in Jerusalem, Israel.) |
