General Notes:
He studied under his great-uncle, Rabbi Jacob of LIssa. He became the first Av Beis Din Potok through the efforts of his great-uncle. He is mentioned in the responsa of scholars of his day, Chatam Sofer, MaHaRI Asher Anschel Zusmen, MaHaRI Kohe n (by Rabbi Israel Rappoport of Tarnow) and Yad Yosef (By Rabbi Joseph Joel Deutsch, Av Beis Diin Monastyriska). Later, on the death of Rabbi Jacob HaKohen Gutwirth (also a student of his great-uncle, Rabbi Jacob of Lissa) in 1848, he became Av B eis Din of Dukla. Here he came into conflict with the Chassidic movement which has a large following in the town, including the leaders of the Jewish community. He left to become Av Beis Din of Tysmenitsa where he lived in peace until his deat h there in 1860. His book Me'orot Nathan was published in 1904 in Drohobycz.
