Prominent landscape architect in Canada. Married to Peter Heinz Oberlander. Cornelia left Germany in 1938 with her mother and sister. She studied at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and later at Harvard where she met her future husba nd Peter Oberlander. He was from Vienna and also a refugee from the Nazi regime. He fled to England in the 1930's and was interned there as an enemy alien. Later he was sent to Canada and interned there. After his release he studied at McGil l University in Montreal and later at Harvard.

Peter and Cornelia moved to Canada and lived in Vancouver where Cornelia still resides. Cornelia started her own firm - "Cornelia Hahn Oberlander Architects" - in Vancouver in 1953. She has worked on some major projects in North America such a s Robson Square in Vancouver, The Vancouver Public Library, the National Gallery in Ottawa, and the New York Times Building. Peter was also a landscape architect, as well as professor of regional planning and director of the Centre for Human Sett lement at the University of British Columbia. A recent biography of Cornelia was published in 2014.


Cornelia married Peter Heinz Oberlander. (Peter Heinz Oberlander was born on Nov 29, 1922 in Vienna, Austria and died on Dec 27, 2008 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.)
