(b. May 4, 1849, Warsaw) Merchant. He married Etka Chaja Kernbaum (or Kornbaum) in Warsaw on November 4/16, 1875. The marriage was registered on November 6/18, 1875. At the time of the marriage Majer's parents were both alive. Majer was 26 an d Etka Chaja was 20. Etka Chaja was a daughter of Izrael Kernbaum and Frajda nee Prager from Warsaw. Before the marriage they made a pre-nuptial agreemant at the office of Antonij Kochanowski.
Also in 1875, Majer Cohn was one of the defendants in a criminal case in Warsaw. The results of the trial were printed in the newspaper Gazeta Warszawska (Nr. 277) from 3 (15) December 1875. The trial itself was conducted on August 18/30 1875 . Twenty-two people were on trial - most of them have Jewish names but some have Polish names. They are listed wit their parents' names, and "Majer Kohn" is listed as the son of Chaim and Rozalia.
They were all tried "in abstentia' and found guilty for leaving the country illegally. It gives the destinations of some of them. Majer went to Autstria in 1870 illegallly (Perhaps he went to Lwow where his brother Izydor was living. Also in 1 870 his brother JOzua was in Vienna studying music).
The notice in the newspaper also says that most of the defendants, including Majer Kohn, were found guilty. They were "stripped of all their rights and banished for life" and if they would every come back of their own accord they would be settle d in Siberia. However, Majer did return and, as was stated above, got married in Warsaw in November 1875.
Majer married Etka Chaja Kernbaum, daughter of Izrael Kernbaum and Frajda Prager, on Nov 16, 1875 in Warsaw, Poland.
