He was a teacher, writer, and early promoter of Mode rn Hebrew. He was also a leader of the Sephardic community in Jerusal em and president of the Jerusalem Jewish Community Council, 1920-1931.
Margalit married Joseph Baran Meyhus. (Joseph Baran Meyhus was born in 1868 and died in 1942.)
