Cohn, Adam

  • Born: Jan 15, 1855, Warsaw, Poland

  General Notes:

Adam Cohn is probably identical with an artist named Adam Cohn, who used the pseudonym "Adolf Conadam." He was born in Warsaw and studied in Vienna at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1880 he won a prize while he was a student there. He spent thre e years wandering in Ital, returned to Vienna, then moved to Munich. He lived there from 1889-1896, doing illustrations for the humor magazine "Fliegende Blatter" [Flying Pages]. Then he moved to the town of Dachau near Munich where he was a pai nter, a part of the "Dachau School" and was a pupil of Adolf Holzel.

This lexicon gives Adam Cohn's date of birth as December 12, 1857. Another source gives his date of birth as January 15, 1861. Despite the discrepencies in the dates, it is likely to be the same Adam Cohn who was the son of Chaim and Rozalia Coh n.
