Cohn, Gitel (Constancia Gustava)

  • Born: Aug 20, 1840, Kempen, Germany
  • Marriage (1): Feilchenfeld, Stanislaw (Szachna) Ephraim
  • Died: 1927, Berlin, Germany at age 87

  General Notes:

Constancia Gustave nee Cohn Feilchenfeld is described in the "Descendants of Wolf Fales" as being the daughter of "Chaim Cohn, Rabbi of Kempen, when she was born, later silk merchant in Warsaw. Her mother's father was Rabbi Landau in Kempen." Th is document gives her date of birth as 1840 in Kempen and date of death as 1927 in Berlin. This date of birth corresponds with the date of Gitel Cohn in Kempen.

According to "The Descendants of Wolf Fales" she married Stanislaw (Sachna) Ephraim Feilchenfeld, which is corroborated by JRI. From this document: He was born in Warsaw on August 16, 1833, and died in Thorn in 1907. He was a businessman. Cele brated by Polish patriots because, in 1863, he participated in the Polish insurrection against the Russians, and, when it failed, fled to Prussia, saving the funds which fed the movement. He settled in Thorn where his cousins lived...and was natu ralized.

JRI contains the marriage record of Lewi Falchenfeld and Mrya Neuding, who were likely Stanislaw's parents. They were married in Warsaw in 1823. Lewi Falchenfeld is native of Leszno (Lissa), a son of Szymon and Marya Szotlend, and his wife Mary a is a daughter of Szachna Neuding and Rayzla, daughter of Jozek.

Thus Stanislaw (Szachna) Feilchenfeld appears to be a grandson of Szachna Neuding, one of the three men who took part in the Jewish delegation which met with Tsar Alexander I to acquire equal rights for the Jews. The other two men of the delegati on were Wolf Michel Cohn (husband of Chaim Cohn's great aunt Sora Rochel Cohn); and MIchel Ettinger Rawski, who was a relative of Chaim Cohn's father-in-law Rabbi Joseph Samuel Landau, who wrote a eulogy for Michel Ettinger Rawski after his deat h which was later published.

Gitel married Stanislaw (Szachna) Ephraim Feilchenfeld, son of Lewi Falchenfeld and Marya Neuding. (Stanislaw (Szachna) Ephraim Feilchenfeld was born on Aug 16, 1833 in Warsaw, Poland and died in 1907 in Thorn, Poland.)
