General Notes: Wife - Helena Balicka-Kozlowska
Born September 13, 1920, in Warsaw. She married Kozlowski and is known as Helena Balick-Kozlowska. Helena was also an acitve socialist like her parents. During the war the Balickis gave shelter to several Jews including Sara Biderman (alias "K rysia"), a friend of Helena's from university and one of the Warsaw Ghetto fighters. After Sara had been shot by a German gendarme Helen'as parents arranged for Sara to have an operation which saved her life.
Helena also know and helped several other members of the ZOB (Jewish Fighting Organization) who were working on the "Aryan" side of the ghetto wall, such as Yitzhak Zuckerman (alias "Antek"), his wife Zivia Lubetkin, and Simcha Rotem (Simcha/Szymo n Rathajzer allia "Kazik"). On January 14, 1985, upon the recommendattion of Simcha Rotem, Helena and her parents were recongnized by Yad Vashem as "righteioius among the nations." In the Yad Vashem database the religion of all three (Helena an d her parents) is given as "Catholic."
Helena published her memoirs under the title Mur miial dwie strony [The Wall Had Two Sides] (1958, 2002). She was also the author of: Zwiazek walki mlodych (1953); Wspomnienia o Hance Sawickiej (1955) [a biography of a young Polish communist wom an, Hank Sawicka]; Sytuacja zyciowa i potrzeby ludnosci starszej (1979). She also co-authored several other books. In March, 2001, she wrote an article about her family for Kwartalnik historii Zydow [Jewish History Quarterly] entitled: Z kronik i rodzinnej (1808-1907) [From the chronicles of a family (1808-1907].
