General Notes: Husband - Robert Howard Tachna

Dear Robert,

I hope this note finds you well! I need to take a moment to thank yo u for the positive affect you had on my life when we were children. W e were classmates in Ms. Parsons 3rd grade class at Green School almos t 40 years ago. You were a great artist…..often drawing army men battl e scenes and a genuinely nice person. I remember asking what you wante d for Christmas. You firmly told me “I’m Jewish….I don’t celebrate Chr istmas….I celebrate Hanukkah.” I ask you “What’s Hanukkah?” and you ex plained Hanukkah to me. I remember being fascinated by a holiday othe r than Christmas.

I went home and told my Mother I learned something new in class. I tol d her I was excited to learn about Hanukkah. That evening she took m e to the old West Bloomfield Library to check books on world holiday s and celebrations. I remember pouring through the book and absorbin g the information. I was very fascinated and intrigued by the words an d bright photos in the book… men, women and children all around the wo rld praying, worshiping, celebrating and sharing their faith with love d ones. I had to write a book report for my Mom and explain what I lea rned. Your words drove me to learn more and more about world religion s and cultures as well as how our differences should bring us together .

Almost 40 years later I’m an HR professional with a degree in Sociolog y and World Religion. I’ve used my love of mankind, intolerance of dis crimination, exposure to numerous cultures, religious celebrations, fa ith practices and diverse upbringing to become a well-rounded Human Re sources professional. I continue to read books and participate in vari ous diverse events around the city or where ever my travels take me.
I sincerely thank you for changing the way I look at life years ago . I appreciate you more that words can express!

Wishing you continued blessings on this great journey!

Monica
