He was probably named Leyb after his mother's fat her. According to Gesher Galicia a man named Leib Antel died in Brody on May 27, 1834.

Moses Leyb must be the son of Gecel Wolf Cohn mentioned by Ita Yellin, wh helped Szlama in the bank in Odessa (unless Moses Leyb died and Gecel and Selde had another son).
